Aktivis didakwa atas kesalahan berkait pertubuhan tak berdaftar

Zafar Ahmad Abdul Ghani, leader of the Rohingya human rights organization Malaysia Rohingya Ethnic Human Rights Organization (Merhrom), faces trial at the High Court in Putrajaya today on two charges under the Societies Act. The charges include misconduct in managing an unregistered society and representing a society that violated the law.

According to the Societies Registration Department of Malaysia (JPPM), the charges against Zafar were brought as a result of investigations into the activities and statements of Merhrom, with the accused alleged to have falsely presented himself as the president of the organization. JPPM found that Merhrom has never been registered and that Zafar holds no official position within the group. The court has set October 30th for a re-scheduling of the case.
