2027: ‘Nigeria in trouble, level of poverty has increased’ – ADC’s Amaechi

Rotimi Amaechi, the presidential running mate for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has stated that Nigeria is facing significant challenges. Speaking to AIT, Amaechi expressed concern over the increasing level of hunger in the country. If ADC were to win the presidency in 2027, he predicted that Nigerians would applaud his administration for making a positive difference. However, Amaechi warned that if Nigeria does not show improvement within the first year of his leadership, he would be compelled to resign.

The former Rivers State governor emphasized that Nigeria's progress hinges on addressing three critical issues: insecurity, the economy, and corruption. Amaechi stressed that corruption must be eradicated, as it prevents the country from generating sufficient funds to tackle other problems. He further explained that the removal of subsidy by President Tinubu did not lead to any benefits, given the financial imprudence in the private sector.

Amaechi highlighted the stark contrast between the lifestyles of individuals in the South, who hold lavish private parties, and those in the North who are suffering from extreme poverty and hunger. He questioned the source of funding for such extravagant events, given the alarming poverty levels in Nigeria. The ADC candidate argued that Nigeria's reliance on foreign imports for over 46% of its finished goods further exacerbates the economic strain on the nation.

The former governor shared a personal anecdote about being booed by supporters at the Lagos International Airport when President Tinubu arrived at his home. He confidently predicted that if ADC were to assume the presidency, the Nigerian people would enthusiastically welcome them, clapping in appreciation for their transformative leadership. Amaechi concluded his statements by asserting that if Nigeria fails to make significant progress within a year of the ADC's rule, he would resign from his position.
