18-Month-Old Toddler Walks Alone From Daycare to Mom’s Office

An 18-month-old boy in southern Brazil independently ventured from his daycare center to his mother's office, a distance of approximately 50 meters, without anyone noticing his absence. This incident occurred on Friday, September 25, at the Centro Educacional Infantil Antônio Volpato in Braço do Norte, Santa Catarina. Security cameras recorded the toddler walking along a dead end street to reach the office where his mother worked.

The child arrived safely at the business and was discovered by a receptionist, who brought him inside. Authorities from the Policia Civil de Santa Catarina have opened an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the toddler's departure and to ascertain if anyone was responsible for the incident. The daycare building was undergoing renovations at the time, and only two classrooms were operational.

The municipal authorities have initiated an administrative investigation to review entry and exit procedures at early childhood education centers in the municipality. The Policia Civil de Santa Catarina and the Ministerio Público de Santa Catarina are both conducting inquiries into the case, with a prosecutor set to visit the daycare on October 2 to assess the facility and meet with staff members.

Authorities are currently investigating how the toddler managed to leave the daycare and walk alone to his mother's office without anyone noticing his absence.
