Why single out Loke when corruption is real problem, asks Anwar

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim intends to meet with Transport Minister Loke Siew Fook following the latter's resignation letter submission, according to reports. The DAP secretary-general presented the resignation letter to Anwar yesterday, while the latter was on his way to attend a funeral. Anwar questioned the rationale behind pressuring Loke to resign, stating that those who do not embezzle are being asked to step down.

He emphasized that Loke's work and performance as a minister have been commendable and promised to discuss the matter further with him at the launch of the inaugural Malaysia Professional Day held at the KLGCC Convention Centre.

Earlier, Loke had revealed that his resignation as Transport Minister would become effective upon the release of former Prime Minister Najib Razak from prison to serve the remainder of his term under house arrest. Loke had met with Anwar to discuss the situation, maintaining his commitment to resigning if Najib is granted a conditional pardon. Despite this decision by the DAP's central executive committee, the party remains within the government, and the remaining ministers will continue to hold their positions.
