Ukraine intercepts all 3 Russian missiles and 106 drones in mass overnight raid

On day 1678 of the Russo-Ukrainian war, Russia has been conducting mass drone attacks aimed at forcing Ukraine to surrender by spring 2027, according to the Institute for the Study of War (ISW). The attacks are designed to overwhelm Ukraine's defenses and weaken its military capabilities.

Ukrainian tanks are currently fighting from a distance, utilizing 1960s Soviet T-62M models that are effective in their role. Since capturing over 40 of these tanks, Ukraine has not suffered a confirmed combat loss. However, Russia has been using satellite communications that Ukraine may struggle to disrupt, as the new network is nearly impossible to switch off.

Despite sustained Russian attacks, Ukrainian marines have made local gains on the Pokrovsk front, clearing 5 square kilometers and capturing two Russian soldiers. Ukraine has also targeted key railway infrastructure in Bryansk, Russia, damaging a bridge and derailing 28 cars.

In an unusual tactic, Ukraine has reportedly rebuilt Soviet BTR-60 armored personnel carriers as kamikaze robots and used them to storm a key hub near Donetsk, capturing 250 Russian prisoners. This strategy aims to outmaneuver Russian forces in the region.

Ukraine has also launched attacks on fuel depots in Krasnodar Krai, southern Russia, delivering a significant blow to Russia's logistics capabilities. The explosions caused by the strikes left residents of Novotitarovskaya, 25 km from Krasnodar, reporting at least six explosions before the fires started.

Russia has been accelerating its development of the Geran-5 satellite jamming system, which may be more effective than previous models at disrupting Ukraine's communications. Some Ukrainian drones have reportedly hit Russian radar located 120 km behind the front, likely using advanced Nebo-M technology.

Humanitarian concerns have arisen as Russia routes its pipeline into Kupiansk as an escape route for captured civilians, who are being used as human shields by Russian forces. Drone footage has shown a column of Russian soldiers being transported, raising concerns about the potential use of civilians as shields.

In recent strikes, Russia has targeted high-rise buildings in Kharkiv, injuring 43 people, and killed four citizens in strikes on central Kyiv and Dnipro. The pre-dawn bombing of Ukraine's National Academy of Sciences in Kyiv, a century-old institution, has been compared to the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center.

Ukraine's disclosure of a secret transfer of North Korean prisoners has sparked a demand from South Korea for an apology from Kyiv. Kyiv claims it never made such a promise, while South Korea alleges that Ukraine broke its word.

As the war continues, Ukraine is facing significant financial burdens, with the conflict costing the country $155 billion per year. Western aid has been delayed, forcing Kyiv to prioritize its military and pension obligations, freezing parks, fountains, and road repairs to ensure these essential services are maintained. The Kremlin has threatened that Ukraine must "pay a price" for Russia's intensified strikes, echoing the views of the ISW, which predicts that Ukraine's capitulation may occur by spring 2027 if the current strategy persists.
