U.S. President Donald Trump convened the leaders of the Artificial Intelligence (AI) sector at the White House on Tuesday to advocate for self-regulation of the industry, addressing the risks the sector's rapid technological advancements pose. Some AI creators warn that the swift pace of technological development could endanger humanity in the long term, while recent incidents involving uncontrolled AI models have seen private companies and government agencies hacked.

Trump emphasized that the U.S. is leading the advancements in AI compared to China and intends to maintain this lead.

Trump surrounded himself with prominent figures from AI companies, including Dario Amodei of Anthropic (Claude), Greg Brockman of OpenAI (ChatGPT), Elon Musk of xAI (Grok), Sundar Pichai of Google (Gemini), Satya Nadella of Microsoft (Copilot), Jensen Huang of Nvidia (chips supporting AI), Mark Zuckerberg of Meta (Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp), and Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon.

Several AI leaders, led by Amodei, have publicly expressed concerns over the risks associated with an uncontrolled development of this technology.

In response, Trump declared that he was witnessing a remarkable capacity for self-control among the AI industry leaders. He claimed that they acknowledged the need to self-regulate through internal and external reviews of their advancements. Trump reiterated that these leaders have agreed to sign an voluntary agreement of self-regulation with mandatory internal and external reviews to tackle the widespread concerns about the risks of this technology.

Despite the risks, Trump stressed that they cannot hinder the sector's growth, as the U.S. has a significant advantage. This Tuesday, Trump hosted a state dinner for his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, where he reunited with the majority of the mentioned tech leaders. He also hosted another dinner with Amodei, the primary advocate for AI regulation, the previous evening.
