Spiritual legacy

Recently, a close friend of mine unexpectedly rented a house on Jeju Island for an extended stay and invited me to visit. Upon my arrival, a stunning rainbow graced the Jeju sky, arching from the airport to a seaside cafe. Welcoming me with a smile, she affectionately called me "the woman who brought the rainbow." As we drove along the coastal road, we stopped at romantic beach cafes, savoring local delicacies such as wild abalone seaweed soup.

Jeju Island is renowned for its primeval lava forests, known as "gotjawal," and small volcanic cones, called "oreum." Just an hour's flight from Seoul, these natural wonders give the island a tranquil, tropical ambiance. However, the reason my friend chose to stay there for so long became clear. Her college-aged son, who had traveled extensively to places like New York, Florida, Hawaii, Tokyo, and Kyoto, experienced a cultural shock that prompted him to reflect profoundly on the meaning of life.

He yearned for a place where he could breathe freely and live surrounded by breathtaking nature. Consequently, his mother selected Jeju as the perfect destination. While maintaining her base in Seoul, her son found solace and fulfillment in his newfound haven on the island.
