Settler violence in West Bank 'moral stain' on Israel, Herzog says as Netanyahu condemns riots

Recent violent riots in the West Bank have drawn condemnation from Israeli leaders, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President Isaac Herzog decrying the actions as a stain on the nation's moral fabric. The clashes erupted overnight near the village of Jalud, following attempts by security forces to return a Palestinian family to their home following incidents of nationalist crime against them.

Settler extremists engaged in acts of violence, including stone-throwing, arson, and assault against IDF and Border police, actions which were deemed unjustified and illegal by President Herzog.

Herzog stated that the violence stands in stark contradiction to Jewish values and highlighted that the riots, occurring during the Sukkot holiday, desecrated both the festival and the settlement enterprise. The retired IDF chief of staff, Gadi Eisenkot, also expressed disgust at the acts of violence, condemning them as morally reprehensible and harmful to the security of all residents and the work of the security apparatus.

He further criticized the government's policy failures, alleging that the current administration's approach has led to anarchy and a loss of control in the region.
