Road to the crown: Zenith Bank/NBBF women’s basketball league final 8 set for lagos

All attention will focus on two teams, MFM and Nigeria Customs, who both finished their respective Atlantic and Savannah Conferences unbeaten in the 2026 NBBF/Zenith Bank Women’s Basketball League. The Final 8 will commence today at the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium in Surulere, Lagos. The first match is scheduled to begin at 10am, with additional games at 12pm, 2pm, and 4pm, concluding on October 1.

MFM has proven their dominance, topping all other teams in both the Phase 1 and 2 of the Atlantic Conference. Likewise, Nigeria Customs achieved the same feat in the Savannah Conference. The two teams have yet to face each other, and they may not do so until the semifinals on October 2, should one team not emerge victorious in their group or if they both secure the top position in their respective groups.

MFM claimed the title consecutively in 2023 and 2024, but lost last year to Dolphins. The league's reigning sponsor, Zenith Bank, aims to see the MFM reclaim their title. Other teams to watch include Victoria Queens and Aso Sky Queens, who showcased impressive performances in both conferences. Zenith Bank's MD/CEO, Dame (Dr.) Adaora Umeoji, has called for fair play and sportsmanship, urging Lagosians to come out and support the best of women's football in Nigeria.
