Rare Opportunity For The President

President John Mahama has been presented with a unique opportunity to demonstrate his aversion to the political practice of attacking others. According to a source, a staff member of the Interior Minister labeled those who criticized the unsuccessful 'Nkoko Nkitinkiti' project as fools, an insult that is not only hurtful, but indicative of the government's intolerance.

Unless this aide is reprimanded immediately, it can be assumed that he is expressing the views of his superior and the government. The culture of insults has been a long-standing issue, but the President's part in fostering it cannot be overlooked. This is why President Mahama's call for a national forum on the matter is met with skepticism.

During his previous term, he was quoted telling Akufo-Addo's campaign manager that he might be sleeping if he claimed to have created good roads in the Western Region. There are numerous instances of personal insults he has directed towards his predecessor and those who oppose him. This hypocrisy is hindering our progress as a democratic nation, and addressing it is crucial for achieving our national goals.

While there have been discussions about the level of insults faced by the country, the root cause must be identified before any progress can be made. Blaming all politicians for these insults is hypocritical and inappropriate. We must identify the source and confront them directly. We should have the courage to confront those who openly prayed for the death of the former President and labeled him the master of corruption.

Similarly, we should not shy away from exposing Akufo-Addo's alleged corruption, such as his claim that he may steal state resources personally, but have his relatives do so on his behalf so he can enjoy the benefits upon retirement. We must acknowledge that the atmosphere in our country is being poisoned by insults, some of which are too graphic to repeat.

The President's inconsistent statements and body language do not help the situation. It is clear that his claim of only hearing about the recent arrests of TikTokers in the media is not true. Ordering the Police to stop arresting individuals who allegedly use hate speech on TikTok is not the desired outcome for Ghanaians, as stated by the President.

It appears that he would prefer a legislation to silence the people of Ghana, even as his supporters continue to spread vile messages. Therefore, it is recommended that President Mahama decommission Kevin Taylor, and others will likely cease their hate speech.
