Five arrested after luggage left unattended at railway stations

Five individuals have been apprehended after four Dutch railway stations experienced partial evacuations on Tuesday morning due to unattended luggage. The city of Haarlem fell victim to two stray bags reported around 10:15am, forcing the closure of the station and surrounding areas. Passengers were unable to board trains at the station.

Similar incidents occurred in Rotterdam, Utrecht, and Dordrecht, where luggage was also left standing. Despite no evidence linking the incidents, police described the situation as "highly unusual." Three suspects were arrested at Haarlem station, while two others were detained at Utrecht Centraal. Camera footage from Utrecht showed the suspects acting suspiciously before discarding the bags.

In Rotterdam, a pedestrian tunnel was evacuated as police inspected two abandoned suitcases for potential explosives. A woman later admitted to leaving the bags while she went into the city center, but she was not arrested. Police spokesman Jan Martijn Stout stated that the incidents appear to be unrelated, but the suspects are being questioned about why they left the bags behind. Their role is being investigated due to the significant disruption to public order.
