Raiders off to surprising 3-0 start as unbeaten Chiefs set to visit

Klint Kubiak, the first-year coach of the Las Vegas Raiders, isn't eager to discuss playoff prospects just three weeks into the season. Despite their impressive 3-0 start, he emphasizes the need to improve daily. This start is particularly noteworthy as the Raiders will host their AFC West rival, the Kansas City Chiefs, this Sunday.

Kubiak attributes their success to the team's maturity, goal-oriented mindset, and strong leadership. He refers to their resilience and toughness, which were on display during a recent 35-27 victory against the New Orleans Saints. The Raiders erased an 11-point deficit in the second half, showcasing their ability to perform under pressure.

While the Raiders have thrived this season, their special teams have struggled. A fumbled kickoff return led to a quick lead for the Saints, and a forced punt after the Raiders cut the deficit to five points has been a recurring issue. However, tight end Brock Bowers' return from knee surgery has proven valuable, catching 10 passes for 116 yards and a touchdown in his second game back.

The Raiders' ground game has been disappointing, with only 74 yards on 23 carries since the last game against the Los Angeles Chargers. Quarterback Kirk Cousins has been a bright spot, becoming the first quarterback to open a season with three wins and three touchdown passes since Russell Wilson in 2020.

Injuries are a concern, with WR Jack Bech out with a broken arm, RG Jackson Powers-Johnson recovering from a groin injury, and S Treydan Stukes potentially returning this week after a concussion. Quarterback Aidan O'Connell, whose father passed away last week, is also expected to return. The Raiders face a challenging stretch of games, including the Chiefs, New England, Buffalo, and the Los Angeles Rams.
