Djokovic one of 12 members of player panel to meet with tennis majors

In Paris, France, on Monday, it was confirmed that 12 members of a proposed advisory council have been identified to engage in dialogue between the four Grand Slam tournaments and frustrated players. The prominent figures on the list include Novak Djokovic, the record-breaking 24-time Grand Slam singles champion, and world No.1 women's player Elena Rybakina.

The four Grand Slam events — US Open, Australian Open, French Open, and Wimbledon — announced the formation of the council ahead of the US Open in August. The council's purpose is to examine all sporting matters related to the Grand Slam tournaments, including player welfare and remuneration. Djokovic and Rybakina joined six men and six women on the panel, with feedback from tennis sources.

Notable players like Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz, Coco Gauff, and Alexander Zverev were absent from the list. The players had been protesting for a greater share of tournament revenue, around 22%, and improved investment in pensions and player welfare. The Grand Slam tournaments have since increased prize money and agreed to create the council, which will facilitate regular communication to address player concerns.
