Qatar's Ashghal kicks off Hamad General Hospital development project

Qatar's Public Works Authority, known as Ashghal, has begun a major project to enhance Hamad General Hospital. This national initiative aims to significantly improve the hospital's facilities, systems, infrastructure, and supporting services to ensure top-notch operational readiness and safety. Through cooperation with Hamad Medical Corporation, the project's total cost is estimated at approximately QR 1.179 billion. It is slated for completion in the third quarter of 2027.

Eng. Ahmed Al Emadi, the Acting Head of the Health Projects Section at Ashghal, explained that the project consists of three main packages. These include constructing a new Day Surgery Building, modernizing the Outpatient Tower and the hospital's Main Building, and renovating and rehabilitating the North and South Inpatient Towers. Additionally, various systems, supporting services, and infrastructure will be upgraded during the project.

HMC's Head of Healthcare Facilities Development, Hamad Al Khalifa, stated that this project is part of HMC's ongoing commitment to modernize its facilities and infrastructure to meet the evolving needs of patients and visitors as healthcare services continue to develop.

Eng. Maryam Al Marzouqi, Project Engineer, detailed that the project encompasses the complete replacement of the hospital's mechanical and electrical systems, internal drainage systems, and supporting services. This upgrade will be conducted in accordance with current technical and engineering standards, ensuring the hospital remains at the forefront of medical service delivery.
