Punjab to Launch Crackdown on Token and Property Tax Defaulters

The Punjab Excise and Taxation Department plans to intensify its crackdown on tax defaulters, including those with unpaid token tax and property tax, effective October 1, 2026. Vehicle owners will face a 100% penalty on outstanding token tax after the September 30 deadline, while property taxpayers can benefit from a 5% concession until the same date.

Stricter measures, such as sealing of long-term commercial properties, will commence after the deadline. The department aims to recover a revenue target of Rs. 125 billion through this enforcement drive, urging taxpayers to settle their dues before the deadline to avoid penalties and further recovery actions. The Excise and Taxation Department oversees vehicle taxation and property tax collection in Punjab, with an online portal available for citizens to check and pay their dues.
