Populasi Harimau Malaya meningkat selepas usaha konservasi diperkasa

The Malaysian tiger population has shown an increase compared to the 2021 record, with fewer than 150 individuals documented. This positive development is attributed to nine strategic conservation actions implemented in 2021. Arthur Joseph Kurup, Malaysia's Minister for Indigenous People and Environmental Conservation, addressed a meeting of the National Tiger Implementation Working Group (MyTWG) today, attended by state representatives from the rainforest range countries including Johor, Kedah, Kelantan, Negeri Sembilan, Pahang, Perak, Selangor, and Terengganu.

The meeting also discussed plans to strengthen the K9 Detection Unit of the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan) to enhance enforcement, particularly in preventing tiger poaching at major entry points. The meeting also aimed to strengthen monitoring and recovery of the Malayan tiger population and their prey species through the Biodiversity Monitoring and Protection Program (BP3) and the Conservation and Recovery Population of Malayan Tigers and Their Prey.

The meeting also reviewed the status of Conservation Assured | Tiger Standards (CA|TS) accreditation in Malaysia to further strengthen the management and protection of Malayan tiger habitats. Four protected areas and forest reserves are now registered as CA|TS sites, including Taman Negara in Pahang, Kelantan and Terengganu, Endau-Rompin National Park, Temenggor Forest Complex, and Amanjaya Wildlife Reserve.

Arthur emphasized that these developments indicate conservation efforts for the Malayan tiger can yield results when all stakeholders work together to address the species' crisis. He reiterated the importance of continued efforts to ensure the Malayan tiger, a symbol of Malaysia's Raja Negara, does not become extinct.
