PM lauds Malaysian contingent on best WorldSkills showing since 1995

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 29 — Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim hailed the Malaysian team for their outstanding performance at the WorldSkills Competition (WSC) Shanghai 2026, where they secured one bronze medal and 13 Medals of Excellence. Anwar noted this marked the country's best showing in the competition since 1995. He expressed pride in the 22 young participants who showcased their expertise in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), stating, "Congratulations to the 22 youths who demonstrated their prowess and skills in TVET, bringing honour to the country.

Continue to hone your skills and pursue excellence. You are the pride of the nation." The prime minister also commended Sia Xin Wan, who earned a bronze medal in Software Testing and the Best of Nation award. The Malaysian contingent, comprising 22 individuals, competed in 21 skill categories across various technical sectors at WSC Shanghai 2026, which took place from September 22 to 27.

The event gathered 1,400 skilled young professionals from 65 countries and regions, competing in 64 skill areas.
