Palghar Court Rejects Bail Pleas Of Six Accused In Relief Hospital Assault Case, All 23 Remain In Custody

On Tuesday, the Palghar court denied bail to six of the 23 accused individuals arrested in connection with the assault at Relief Hospital. First Class Judicial Magistrate Sujata Bandal dismissed their applications after hearing arguments from both sides. The six individuals whose pleas were rejected are Rohit Rajendra Gavit, Rahul Sankhe, Manish alias Vicky Sankhe, Vrushab Vare, Sairaj Patil and Neelam Sankhe.

All 23 accused remain in judicial custody following the bail rejections, with the option to appeal to a higher court. The accused include 11 Shinde faction functionaries and 12 members of a rival group. The initial remand to police custody occurred on September 16, while the remaining 22 were placed in judicial custody on September 18.

Bail applications were submitted on September 18, 19 and 21, with arguments heard on September 23 and 24. The Police Investigating Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police Nisha Jadhav, opposed the bail requests, citing the ongoing investigation. The prosecution provided details of the accused's alleged involvement, evidence collected, and the current stage of the investigation as grounds for rejecting the bail applications.

The defence lawyers countered with arguments about the legal provisions for bail, the progress of the investigation, and their clients' alleged roles. The court's order was delayed due to the hospital raising concerns about a Supreme Court ruling in a similar bail case involving Dombivli corporator Ramesh Mhatre, who is also an accused in the Relief Hospital assault case.

This case was registered at the Palghar police station on September 6 following allegations of a brawl at Relief Hospital, involving assault on staff, abuse, and threats.
