Outgoing SEC Commissioner Hester Peirce Says Crypto Use Will Lock In Regulations

SEC Commissioner Hester Peirce has stated that as people become accustomed to using cryptocurrencies under new regulations, it will be more difficult to remove those technologies from them in the future. In an interview with The Block, Peirce, who is resigning from the SEC to teach law and write, reflected on her decade at the agency, where she played a key role in shaping digital asset regulation.

She expressed hope that the Clarity Act, which failed in the Senate, could still be passed. Peirce emphasized that durable regulations are essential for fostering innovation and growth, as people are more likely to continue using products and services built on such frameworks. She emphasized that the more people enjoy the benefits of these technologies, the more likely it is that the rules that supported their development will endure.
