OpenAI unveils new AI agent called "dots"

OpenAI has unveiled a new lineup of AI agents called "dots," unveiled alongside more than twenty other announcements at the company's fourth annual developer conference, DevDay. Dots are described as "remarkably capable, always-on agents" powered by GPT-6 Astra, OpenAI's latest model. These agents learn from user feedback over time, connect with over four thousand apps through the company's ecosystem of plugins, and perform tasks on behalf of their human users.

Dots boast their own unique, cute character designs, including a triangle with a bow tie, a bunny with headphones, and a cloud with a beret. The adorable appearance of these agents aims to allay consumer fears surrounding AI agents, which have been heightened by recent concerns over rogue agents and calls for AI development to slow down.

Users can interact with dots much like they would a human teammate, asking questions, providing feedback, or hopping on voice calls. Each user will begin with a primary dot, which they can customize based on their specific needs.
