OpenAI unveils ‘dots’ to rival to Meta’s Muse, plus a $500 monthly plan

OpenAI unveiled 20 new products at its annual DevDay event in San Francisco, with the keynote focusing on "dots" - desktop agents that can perform multi-step tasks and interact with various applications. These agents can be assigned work via text, Slack, or Microsoft Teams, and will only require human review when necessary. Users can personalize their dots by naming and selecting their shape, and the agents learn preferences over time, though they are not available in regions with strict data privacy laws like the European Economic Area.

To prevent rogue behavior, dots ask for human approval before performing sensitive actions. Pro and Business Premium users receive one free dot, with paid options for more dots in the future. Users can collaborate with dots in ChatGPT Space, where they can upload and share files. OpenAI also introduced a $500/month plan, increasing the usage allowance and speed of Codex eight-fold, while decreasing the usage allowance on the $200/month plan.

Additionally, OpenAI unveiled GPT-6.1 Sol, a more affordable model for developers and builders that matches the intelligence of GPT-6 Astra at a fifth of the price. The company reported over 1.2 billion weekly ChatGPT users and 2.5 million businesses, focusing on enterprise partnerships with 32 partners in its new marketplace. OpenAI also debuted a secure version of Zero Data Retention with Private Safety Processing and plans to introduce a cybersecurity-focused model, GPT-6 Cyber, in the coming weeks.
