'No permission yet for Jantar Mantar 2.0'

Delhi Police has not yet granted permission for a planned protest at Jantar Mantar on October 2 against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, according to sources. The protest is part of ongoing opposition to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and demands for Kumar's resignation. Opposition parties and civil society groups have been organizing demonstrations across the country in recent days, with AAP Delhi President Saurabh Bharadwaj urging people to join the Jantar Mantar protests.

Abhijeet Dipke, founder of the Cockroach Janta Party, has announced a separate Jail Bharo Andolan in Mumbai's Shivaji Park on the same day at 4 pm. However, Mumbai Police clarified that they are not authorized to grant permission for gatherings in the park due to a 2013 High Court ruling, and suggested looking for an alternative venue that would be approved.

The CJP had initially planned a nationwide protest from Mumbai on October 2 if Kumar did not resign, but Dipke later announced the Mumbai protest would take place on Gandhi Jayanti. Other opposition leaders, including Shiv Sena leader Aaditya Thackeray and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, have also voiced support for protests against Kumar.

The Congress Working Committee is set to discuss the issue on Tuesday, and the CPI(ML) Liberation has urged an INDIA bloc meeting on September 30 to address the SIR exercise and the Election Commission's functioning. The Election Commission has dismissed claims of institutional dissent, stating that decisions related to the SIR were made with unanimous approval of the Commission.
