My resignation takes effect when Najib returns home – Anthony Loke

Anthony Loke Siew Fook, the secretary-general of the DAP, announced on September 29 that he will continue serving as transport minister until former Prime Minister Najib Razak begins his house arrest. Following a discussion with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim about the matter, Loke submitted his resignation letter to the Prime Minister.

Loke specified that his resignation would take effect upon Najib's return home, tying his departure directly to the commencement of the house arrest. During the meeting, Anwar had emphasized that Najib should remain in house arrest until the arrangement was fully implemented. Loke acknowledged his uncertainty about the exact date of Najib's release but highlighted that his decision to stay in office is contingent upon that event.

The DAP, including other ministers, will continue to serve in the federal unity government. In a recent decision, Malaysia's King granted a conditional pardon to Najib, allowing him to serve the remainder of his six-year prison term under house arrest until August 23, 2028, provided he pays a RM50 million fine. Najib was initially sentenced to 12 years in prison for his involvement in the SRC International case in August 2022.
