Nanta: New Johor Bahru court complex among 11 judicial projects worth RM736m nationwide

Johor Bahru, Malaysia - The new court complex in Kota Iskandar, known as the Nanta project, is among 11 judicial infrastructure projects nationwide with a total value of RM736 million, according to Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi. This project, approved by the Economic Planning Unit in 2018 under the 11th Malaysia Plan, was executed using a design-and-build approach with an approved cost of RM200 million.

Construction began on February 8, 2023, and was completed within schedule and budget. The complex, spanning 6.88 hectares, houses 24 courtrooms, including a Special Court, seven High Courts, eight Sessions Courts, and eight Magistrates Courts. It is equipped with modern judicial amenities such as judges' chambers, administrative suites, an auditorium, a legal library, and secure holding cells.

The complex incorporates traditional Malay and vernacular design elements, reflecting Johor's cultural heritage. Azalina Othman Said, a Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, confirmed that the vacated court complex in the city center will be returned to the Johor state government, and the federal government will seek royal consent to officially open the new judicial landmark.
