Mysuru doctor among 19 trekkers rescued from snow-hit Kalindi Khal in Uttarakhand

Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research professor Dr. Shivanand from Mysuru found himself among 19 trekkers and support staff stranded in the snow-hit Kalindi Khal region of Uttarakhand for three days before rescue. The group, consisting of trekkers and staff, had embarked from Gangotri for Badrinath on September 18.

However, heavy snowfall beginning September 25 forced them to halt their journey. According to Dr. Shivanand, the trekkers remained stranded at an altitude of 18,500 feet in Kalindi Khal, surviving on limited food and melted snow for water. The group was eventually airlifted to Harsil on September 28, with the rescue operation involving the Indian Army, Ministry of Civil Aviation, Uttarakhand Police, and Uttarakhand State Disaster Response Force.

Dr. Shivanand clarified that, unlike previous treks, no mules were used to carry their luggage on this route. Additionally, several trekkers stranded on the Auden’s Col route have also been rescued.
