Missing man found dead after wild animals scavenged body in Tharaka Nithi

A 49-year-old man named Alfred Mwenda Paston, who had been missing for over a week, was found dead in Keremeke Village, Kambadi Location, Chuka North Sub-County, Tharaka Nithi County. His remains were discovered on Monday, September 28, 2026, by police officers who responded to a missing persons report filed on September 17. The man's skull and various body parts were discovered, with some fragments having been scavenged by wild dogs still present in the area.

His mother identified him through clothes, including a trouser, shirt, and gumboots, found at the scene. The recovered remains were taken to the Chuka Referral Hospital Mortuary for preservation and a post-mortem examination to determine the circumstances of his death. Separately, in Migori County, a 32-year-old man was arrested after his wife's body was found buried in a shallow grave near their residence in Suna East Sub-County.

Everline Odongo, a middle-aged woman, was reported missing on September 25 after an argument with her husband around 4:30pm. Neighbors discovered the shallow grave with her body wrapped in a sack, and the couple had been together for about a month. Police found bloodstains on walls and underneath a bed, and are continuing their investigation into the cause of her death.
