Major overnight Jerusalem riot by haredim leads to 11 arrests, Border Police injuries

Eleven individuals were apprehended following a violent riot in Jerusalem early Tuesday morning, according to the Israel Police. The unrest commenced around 3 a.m. in the vicinity of Haim Bar-Lev Boulevard and Zaks Street, where thousands of young individuals obstructed roads and hurled stones and other debris at civilians and law enforcement personnel, as reported by police. The rioters damaged municipal vehicles belonging to the Jerusalem Municipality and even stole one before abandoning it later.

Jerusalem District Police officers and Border Police personnel collaborated to disperse the crowds employing riot-control tactics until the area was under control once more, stated police. During the tumultuous events, a Border Police officer suffered a head injury after being struck by a thrown bottle. This officer was subsequently evacuated for medical evaluation, but in a light condition.

One other individual was identified and evacuated in a light condition by police officers, who believed they had been assaulted by the rioters, as per the police statement. The rioters eventually made their way to the Damascus Gate area of Jerusalem's Old City, where clashes ensued with local residents once again. Police swiftly worked to disperse the crowd once more.

In total, eleven suspects were arrested on suspicion of rioting, vandalism, and involvement in violent incidents. They were subsequently transferred to a police station for questioning. Police emphasized that these were serious actions by lawbreakers who arrived with the intent to cause damage, engage in acts of vandalism, and attack security forces and civilians.

The police declared that they would not tolerate violent riots and would utilize all means to locate additional people involved, as well as those arrested during the incidents, and bring them to justice.
