Maharashtra Cabinet Approves Direct Recruitment For Ex-Agniveers In Police, Uniformed Services

On September 29, the Maharashtra Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, announced a significant policy change. The cabinet approved direct recruitment for retired Agniveers into the state's police force and allied uniformed services, bypassing the need for competitive exams or further training. This move aims to safeguard career prospects for military recruits under the Agnipath scheme.

Under the policy, a 10% horizontal reservation has been set aside for ex-Agniveers in Group-C uniformed positions, including police, fire services, and coastal security. These individuals will be able to join without having to face recruitment examinations or repeat initial training modules. The policy also includes age limit relaxations to accommodate veterans retiring from the military.

Ex-Agniveers from the Indian Navy will be specifically integrated into the state's coastal security wing, with relaxed caps to absorb all interested navy veterans. Additionally, the absorption of these veterans will extend across various state security cadres, such as the Fire Department and correctional security forces. The Maharashtra Cabinet's decision marks Maharashtra as one of the leading states to establish post-service employment structures for the Armed Forces, making use of military training while ensuring long-term career continuity for these young veterans.
