MACC arrests ex-senior officer over RM42mil paid to several companies

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has apprehended a former senior management officer in connection with alleged misuse of power to authorize approximately RM42 million in operating expense payments to multiple companies. The arrest occurred yesterday at the man's residence in the Klang Valley. Preliminary findings indicate that the suspect, in his 50s, committed these offenses in 2017, involving payments to companies in which he allegedly had interests.

The investigation follows MACC's probe into financial losses incurred by UiTM Holdings Sdn Bhd during 2023. MACC chief commissioner Abd Halim Aman confirmed the arrest upon request, stating that the case is being examined under Section 23 of the MACC Act 2009, which pertains to abuse of power. He previously disclosed that the investigation into UiTM Holdings involved a RM42 million payment linked to a 50MW solar project in Gambang, Pahang.

This payment, he alleged, was utilized for purposes unrelated to the project and was made without the necessary approval from the UiTM Holdings board. The suspect is anticipated to face court proceedings on Thursday.
