Lyari Transformation Project Phase-I Completion Date Announced

Sindh Local Government Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah convened a high-level meeting to monitor the advancement of the Lyari Transformation Project. In attendance were Nabil Gabol, an MNA; Murtaza Wahab, the Karachi Mayor; Wasim Shamshad, the Additional Chief Secretary for Local Government; Junaid Ahmed Jaidi, a personal secretary to PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari; Yousuf Baloch and Shazia Karim Sanghar, Sindh Assembly members; Javed Nagori, the PPP District South President; town chairmen; and senior officials from relevant departments.

During the meeting, Shah revealed that Phase-I of the project would be concluded by August 2027. He emphasized the need for a coordinated approach and hastened the work through collaborative consultation. Shah ordered the immediate resolution of all obstacles obstructing the project's progress and directed that issues impeding development should be addressed with urgency.

He also directed the creation of a joint strategy with relevant institutions to tackle illegal water supply and sewerage connections and stringent action against unauthorized constructions and connections.

Sindh Assembly members Gabol and Karachi Mayor Wahab expressed their concerns and suggestions, and briefed the meeting on the challenges they faced during implementation. Mayor Wahab stated that water and sewerage line issues would be resolved to avoid delays. Shah mentioned that the progress of the project would be reviewed regularly, and all stakeholders would meet every 15 days to evaluate progress, identify hurdles, and ensure timely solutions.

He directed the posting of reputable officers in Lyari Town and ordered the suspension of an Assistant Director from the Sindh Building Control Authority in Lyari due to negligence and delay. Shah asserted that negligence and unnecessary delay in crucial public projects would not be accepted. He emphasized that improving essential infrastructure, water supply, sewerage systems, and civic facilities in Lyari remained the project's primary objectives, which would be achieved within the set timeframe.
