Jharkhand BJP strongly condemn the damage to Syama Prasad Mookerjee’s statue in Ranchi

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Jharkhand has strongly denounced the defacement of Syama Prasad Mookerjee's statue in Ranchi. A delegation, comprising party leaders Deepak Prakash, Balmukund Sahay, Ganesh Mishra, and Naveen Jaiswal, filed a First Information Report (FIR) at Argora police station on Monday (September 28, 2026), accusing unknown anti-social elements of the desecration.

The statue was smeared with soot and offensive remarks were inscribed on it. Deepak Prakash emphasized that Dr. Mookerjee was the ideological foundation of the BJP, the founding president of the Jan Sangh, and a pivotal figure in shaping the party's ideology. The BJP leaders expressed their shock, pain, and dismay at the malicious act, stating that such an assault on a revered national icon is unfortunate and deeply concerning.

They asserted that the statue's destruction, while possible, cannot erase Dr. Mookerjee's contributions to the nation. The BJP's state president, Aditya Sahu, called the act extremely unfortunate and warned that the state government and police administration must apprehend the perpetrators and take stringent legal action. He also threatened to mobilize a protest if the criminals are not brought to justice promptly.

BJP Harmu Mandal president Indrajit Yadav lodged the complaint, leading to the police filing the FIR under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, 1971. The BJP demanded an impartial investigation, strict legal action against the culprits, and heightened security for Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee Park and the statue.
