Former Malaysian Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob faces a challenge in presenting a case against the accusation of failing to declare assets, including RM14.7 million in cash and various amounts in different currencies, as well as five gold bars, according to the former premier. Amer Hamzah Arshad, Ismail's lawyer, stated that the appeal would be filed once the defense team has received and reviewed all relevant documents.

Ismail, 66, is charged with failing to declare assets, including RM14,772,150 in cash, SGD6,132,350, USD1,461,400, CHF3,000,000, EUR12,164,150, JPY363,000,000, GBP50,250, NZD44,600, AED34,750,000, and AUD352,850, along with five 1kg gold ingots and a 5g 999 Fine Gold sovereign, in a notice from SPRM dated January 10, 2025. The offense is alleged to have been committed at SPRM's headquarters in Putrajaya on February 7, 2025, under Section 36(2) of the SPRM Act 2009, which carries a maximum of five years in prison and a fine of not more than RM100,000 if the offense is proven.
