Ismail Sabri akan fail permohonan cabar tuduhan tak isytihar harta

Former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob's legal team has raised concerns about the validity of the charge against him for purportedly failing to declare substantial assets. These include millions of ringgit in cash and five gold bars. Defense lawyer Datuk Amer Hamzah Arshad stated that the team has identified legal issues with the charge and plans to address them in a forthcoming court application.

Amer did not provide additional details about the legal challenge at a press conference following the case mention at Sessions Court in Kuala Lumpur. Previously, during the court proceedings, Amer requested the remaining prosecution documents to allow the defense to thoroughly review the material and decide on the appropriate application to file.

The prosecution had already handed over five volumes of documents, containing seized materials and records of assets previously declared by Ismail Sabri. Judge Suzana Hussin directed the prosecution to provide the remaining documents before the next case mention, scheduled for December 4. Ismail Sabri pleaded not guilty on August 27 to a charge under Section 36(2) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009.

The prosecution alleges the total cash involved in the alleged offence amounted to approximately RM14.7 million based on the Malaysian ringgit values stated in the charge. The alleged offence is said to have been committed at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission headquarters in Putrajaya on February 7, 2025. If convicted, Ismail Sabri faces a maximum penalty of five years in jail and a fine of up to RM100,000.
