Iran denies link to alleged plot targeting UK airbase

Iran has denied involvement in an alleged plot targeting the RAF Fairford airbase in the United Kingdom. The Iranian Embassy in London stated that the claims linking Tehran to the incident were "fabricated speculations," according to Al Jazeera. The allegations emerged after British authorities arrested five nationals near the airbase, suspected of preparing a terrorist act.

British police have not linked Iran to the arrests, as the investigation is ongoing. UK Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband emphasized the need for Britain to confront security threats facing Europe and the wider world, stating that they would act against Iran's proxies. The Iranian embassy categorically rejected the unfounded speculations and warned that such claims could fuel "Iranophobia propaganda."

British security officials are examining multiple lines of inquiry, including potential charges under the Explosives Act and the preparation of a terrorist act. Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps had previously declared the Fairford base a legitimate target in July. The five suspects, all British nationals aged between 23 and 25 from London, were released on bail after extensive interviews and inquiries.

The head of UK Counter Terrorism Policing stated that their release does not mean the investigation is over, and they remain subject to stringent conditions. US President Donald Trump claimed the suspects had been planning to cause "big damage," while expressing surprise at their bail release. UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham was set to chair a meeting of the COBRA emergency response team as authorities continued their investigation.
