Hometown Hero: Brian Garrepy, Providence College

Providence, RI (WPRI) — This week’s Cardi’s Furniture & Mattresses Hometown Sports Hero is Brian Garrepy, the former Hendricken All-Stater who has scored a team-high 6 goals in 9 games for Providence College. Garrepy’s six goals this season have tied him for the most points among Friars, with the goals ranking as the third-highest total in the Big East Conference. All of Garrepy's career points have come during his Red-Shirt Junior season.

Garrepy expressed that he always knew he could contribute to the team, but he made a conscious effort to stay healthy throughout the season. "I mean a little bit, I always knew what I could bring to the team, and I just really made an effort of staying healthy this season," he said. "And some guys went down early this year, and trying to make the most out of the opportunity I’ve had."

Coach Craig Stewart highlighted Garrepy’s dedication to the team, stating, "Yes, Brian’s always been a guy who’s put the team first, who’s got that mentality." When his number was called this year, Garrepy stepped up to deliver key goals at critical moments. As a North Kingstown native, Garrepy considers playing for Providence his lifelong dream. He enjoys representing his hometown and appreciates the unique opportunity to be a part of the games he grew up attending.

Garrepy expressed his hope to continue contributing goals as the Friars aim to climb the league standings and secure a spot in the Big East Tournament. He acknowledged that his time at Providence has been filled with ups and downs, but he is grateful for the experiences, friendships, and lessons learned.
