Guinea-Bissau defeat Nigeria 3-0 in AFCON qualifier

In a thrilling 3-0 victory over Nigeria in a 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying Group L match, Guinea-Bissau showcased their attacking prowess at the 24 de Setembro National Stadium in Bissau on Tuesday. The hosts took the lead in the 15th minute when Franculino Djú capitalized on a pass from Renato Nhaga, firing a left-footed shot past Nigeria's goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali.

Although Nigeria's Alex Iwobi nearly equalized with a clever set-up for Ademola Lookman, Guinea-Bissau's goalkeeper Embadjé made an excellent save. The second half saw the hosts intensify their attacks, with Mama Baldé adding a second goal in the 65th minute after a pass from Mamadi Camará. Despite Nigeria's late substitutions, including George Ilenikhena and Raphael Onyedika, they could not recover from the deficit.

Ilenikhena came close to scoring in the 85th minute, but Embadjé thwarted another Nigerian attempt. Guinea-Bissau secured the win in stoppage time through Álvaro Djaló, who received a through ball from Tamble Monteiro and finished with his right foot. The defeat leaves Nigeria with some work to do in their qualifying campaign, following a previous Group L match win against Madagascar 2-1.
