GES urges government agencies to end blame game over teacher payments

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has called on government agencies to cease the blame game surrounding teacher payments and concentrate on resolving the issue. Daniel Fenyi, GES' Public Relations Head, emphasized that teachers are in dire need of their salaries and implored all relevant entities to work together to address the concerns.

Mr. Fenyi expressed regret over the internal blame game within the government, stating that it began even amongst those who negotiate together— Ministry of Education, GES, the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission, and the Controller and Accountant General’s Department. However, he reiterated that this is not the main issue at hand. The paramount concern is that teachers require their entitlements.

According to Mr. Fenyi, the Education Minister held a meeting with the teacher unions and promised to address the concerns. He further explained that GES has been given until next Monday at 4 p.m. to furnish the necessary documentation. This documentation pertains to approximately 58,000 teaching staff; the total of over 80,000 includes both teaching and non-teaching personnel.

Mr. Fenyi disclosed that GES' employees are working tirelessly to meet the deadline. He expressed optimism that there would be positive news by tomorrow. He reiterated GES' collective positive approach to the matter and reiterated their unwavering focus on teachers' welfare.

Mr. Fenyi assured that the issue would not disrupt the academic calendar. He noted that they have successfully stabilized the calendar, a significant step for GES, and they are determined not to interfere with this schedule.
