GACC trains journalists on Auditor-General’s NPA Performance Audit Report

The Ghana Anti-Corruption Coalition (GACC) conducted a training session for journalists on the Auditor-General's Performance Audit Report regarding the National Petroleum Authority (NPA). This training, held in Accra on September 28, 2026, aimed to improve journalists' understanding of the audit and their ability to report on its findings and follow-ups on recommendation implementation.

The GACC collaborated with the Africa Centre for Energy Policy (ACEP), Transparency International-Ghana (TI-Ghana), and the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) to support this initiative. The Deputy Director-General of the Ghana Audit Service, Mr Samuel Frimpong-Manso, emphasized the NPA's crucial role in regulating the downstream petroleum sector, which includes transportation, power generation, domestic and industrial use, and fishing.

The NPA's mandate involves licensing, monitoring, enforcing official standards, and ensuring consumer protection, accountability, product quality, and safety. Mr Frimpong-Manso highlighted that the performance audit aimed to determine if the NPA's operations were in line with its legal mandate and regulatory responsibilities. He underscored the significance of the training for journalists, as it allows them to access the audit findings and report on them accurately and informedly.
