Fulani leaders fault reported killing of ‘bandit’ in Plateau

Fulani leaders in Plateau State have raised doubts about a report that claimed troops killed a suspected bandit in Rungan Jallo. According to the leaders, the victim was an elderly man named Alhaji Yusha’u, who was mistaken for a bandit and shot while returning home from Nyola. The leaders further stated that Yusha’u was the grandfather of Ismail Zakariya, a Fulani POS operator who was reportedly killed in a separate attack by Berom militia members.

The dispute arose following reports of troops launching an operation after two female miners were killed, leading to an encounter with suspected militia members at Rungan Jallo. The military reportedly killed a suspected militia member and recovered two motorcycles, but the Fulani community disputes the identity of the deceased, insisting that he was a civilian.

They are demanding an investigation into the circumstances of Yusha’u's death to clarify whether he was involved in the attack or not. The incident has raised concerns among Fulani residents about the safety of civilians in the ongoing cycle of attacks and reprisals in Plateau State.
