‘From Roots, Across Cultures, to the Future’ exhibition opens at Katara

In Doha, Qatar, the Cultural Village Foundation (Katara) and the Yunus Emre Turkish Cultural Centre have opened an exhibition titled "From Roots, Across Cultures, to the Future." The show, which runs from September 27 to October 3, 2026, invites visitors to explore the intersection of heritage and contemporary design, running daily from 10am to 10pm at Gallery 47.

Under the theme "Legacy of the Past, Inspiration for the Future," the exhibition aims to build bridges between cultures through art, fostering human dialogue beyond borders. It emphasizes how art can unite people by speaking a universal language that knows no limits.

Organizers hope the exhibition will strengthen ties between Qatar and Turkiye, celebrating traditional values and historical heritage while presenting them fresh through a modern, creative lens. This vision opens up new possibilities for future generations to appreciate and engage with their cultural roots.

At the opening ceremony, Yunus Emre Turkish Cultural Centre Director Enver Gedik expressed his enthusiasm for the event. He highlighted how traditional attire, alongside innovative designs inspired by shared heritage, forms an essential part of both Qatari and Turkish cultures. Clothing, he said, is more than just fabric; it embodies cultural identity, reflecting a society's lifestyle, aesthetics, traditions, and stories handed down through generations.

Gedik pointed out that each pattern, fabric, color, and embroidery carries traces of the cultural memory it belongs to. He noted that the exhibited works underscore the importance of preserving cultural heritage while reinterpreting and presenting it in new ways to ensure its transmission to future generations.

Gedik stressed that Qatar and Turkiye share a common vision regarding the significance of culture, the arts, and the preservation of traditions. He emphasized that the exhibition contributes to strengthening cultural bonds between the two nations, offering a platform for deeper mutual understanding through art.

He added that the Yunus Emre Turkish Cultural Center's mission extends beyond promoting the Turkish language and culture. It also aims to build bridges of mutual understanding and friendship between cultures and peoples, with this exhibition embodying that very spirit.
