Felix Afena-Gyan starts as Queiroz makes two changes in starting line-up against Gambia

Ghana suffered a second consecutive loss in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers as they fell 4-2 to The Gambia at Accra Sports Stadium. The Black Stars, eager to return to the continental showpiece after missing the 2025 tournament, attempted to recover from their 2-0 defeat against Côte d'Ivoire in the opening Group C match.

Carlos Queiroz introduced several changes to his team, with debutant Benjamin Asare taking the goalkeeping spot, Alexander Djiku replaced in defense, and Jerome Opoku, Kojo Oppong Peprah, and Gideon Mensah remaining on the field. Kwasi Sibo and Caleb Yirenkyi began in midfield, with Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, Christopher Bonsu Baah, and Felix Afena-Gyan leading the attack.

Ghana took an early lead with a goal from Ernest Nuamah in the 27th minute, after he converted a penalty after Jerome Opoku was fouled. The Black Stars dominated possession throughout the game, but struggled to create clear scoring chances. The Gambia nearly equalized in the 37th minute, as Muhammed Badamosi scored from a penalty after Gideon Mensah committed a foul.

Omar Colley and Ebrima Colley scored for The Gambia in quick succession, equalizing and then taking the lead in the 68th minute, respectively. Despite Ghana's efforts to equalize, a late goal from Ebrima Colley secured the 4-2 victory for The Gambia, leaving Ghana bottom of Group C without any points after two matches.
