AFCON 2027Q: Ghana suffer 4-2 defeat to Gambia

Ghana experienced a second consecutive defeat in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, losing 4-2 to Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium. The Black Stars took an early lead through Ernest Nuamah and Felix Afena-Gyan, but Gambia mounted a formidable comeback to stage a remarkable victory. Ghana struggled to create chances in the first half, with only one shot on target after 19 minutes.

The Black Stars gradually gained momentum, creating a goal-scoring opportunity in the 27th minute when Nuamah assisted Felix Afena-Gyan, who converted a penalty after a foul on Jerome Opoku. Afena-Gyan added a second goal four minutes later, giving Ghana the lead. However, Gambia did not relent and equalized two minutes after Ghana's second goal, with captain Gideon Mensah converting a penalty.

Gambia took the lead level once more four minutes before halftime, with Mohammed Badamosi scoring from a penalty after Mensah's foul. The Black Stars failed to recover, and Omar Colley scored the equalizer in the 68th minute. Gambia sealed the win in injury time with Colley scoring his second goal of the match, and a third and final goal.

The loss leaves Ghana's qualification hopes in jeopardy after losing both of their opening two Group C matches, and they will face Somalia in their next qualifier.
