Daewoo E&C Wins 868.6 Billion-Won Yongin Semiconductor Project

Daewoo Engineering & Construction has secured a contract worth 868.6 billion won to develop the first phase of the Yongin Advanced System Semiconductor Cluster National Industrial Complex. This project, identified as the largest public construction initiative of the year by Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH), is situated in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, covering an extensive area of 3.45 million square meters.

The consortium led by Daewoo E&C, comprising Namkwang Construction, Jungheung Construction, and Samho Construction, earned a total score of 310.8 points in the project plan evaluation using the Construction Management at Risk (CMR) method, securing the winning bid. Daewoo E&C’s stake in the total bid amount of 868.6 billion won amounts to 416.9 billion won, constituting a 48% share.

The project will involve the construction of essential infrastructure, including roads, water supply, and sewage systems, to support the operations of the complex. The development of this complex is crucial, as it is slated to include Samsung Electronics' first semiconductor manufacturing facility, solidifying its strategic importance in bolstering the nation's semiconductor competitiveness.

This contract award underscores Daewoo E&C's long-standing trust and expertise in managing large-scale civil engineering projects, as evidenced by their successful completion of seven private-participation public housing projects under LH’s commission over the past three years. The company is currently active in several major urban renewal initiatives led by LH, such as the Seongnam Sujin District 1 redevelopment and the Cheonho A1-1 District public redevelopment project.

Additionally, Daewoo E&C is broadening its influence in national infrastructure by spearheading key projects like the Gadeokdo New Airport site development and the Hongcheon Pumped-Storage Hydropower Plant. The government aims to expedite the advancement of the Yongin Semiconductor Cluster, viewing this contract award as a pivotal moment.

Through this project, Daewoo E&C intends to establish its position in the public construction market while contributing to the creation of infrastructure essential for the semiconductor industry, which holds strategic significance for the nation.
