Begusarai: Self-help group worker raped, assaulted in hotel; video circulated

A self-help group worker in Begusarai, Bihar was allegedly raped and assaulted in a hotel room on September 27, with video footage of the incident circulated on social media. The woman, who was on her way to collect loan repayments, met a neighbor who offered her a ride. It was alleged that she was taken to the hotel on the pretext of having a conversation.

Once inside, she was threatened with a knife and sexually assaulted. The two accused have been linked as they are related, according to police. One has been arrested, while the main accused remains at large. The incident occurred near a movie theater and police station in the state. Opposition leader Tejashwi Yadav condemned the act, stating that law and order had completely collapsed in Bihar.

The police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Information Technology Act, and an SIT is conducting raids to apprehend the main accused. Forensic evidence has been collected and the incident site inspected by a team.
