Back to normal as pro golf returns to UAE with Abu Dhabi Challenge

Golf professionals and organizers in the United Arab Emirates are optimistic about the resumption of professional golf following the conclusion of the Iran conflict. The Abu Dhabi Challenge, part of the HotelPlanner Tour, is set to take place at Al Ain Equestrian, Shooting & Golf Club, marking the first competition in the region since the war began at the end of February.

The Dubai-based DP World Tour's Middle East swing had already ended before the conflict started. However, the situation did impact the tour, including the Abu Dhabi Challenge, which was postponed from May to this month. The final tournaments in Abu Dhabi and Dubai are scheduled for November.

Some players, like world No 4 Matt Fitzpatrick, have expressed some reservations about traveling due to the ongoing situation in the region. However, organizers are confident that the tournament will help alleviate concerns for players. Four-time DP World Tour winner David Horsey, a resident of Dubai, emphasized the importance of ensuring the event's success, stating that it's a positive sign that the course is in great shape and the situation is under control.

Top-ranked Irish player Liam Nolan expressed full faith in the safety of the tournament and its importance for his preparation for the season finale in China. The Abu Dhabi Challenge is a crucial stepping stone for players aiming to secure spots in international tournaments, including the two in China and the season finale in Mallorca.
