Another student arrested in sports school murder probe

Police in Negeri Sembilan have arrested another Form 4 student in connection with the death of a junior at a sports school. The suspect has been placed on remand for six days since September 28 to assist in the ongoing murder investigation. Initially, a Form 4 student was arrested and remanded for six days until October 1 for allegedly "punishing" Idlan Fareeq Shahril for breaking school rules.

The victim, Idlan, was found unconscious in the dormitory of the sports school in Kuala Pilah and was subsequently rushed to Tuanku Ampuan Najihah Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. An initial post-mortem conducted at the hospital last Saturday was inconclusive in determining the student's cause of death, and further checks revealed that the victim had a history of asthma.

Police have recorded statements from a total of 68 witnesses, comprising students, hostel wardens, and teachers. Idlan's aunt had previously alleged that a senior at the school hostel had assaulted her nephew. Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek has ordered an immediate audit of the school's safety compliance.
