Alleged Rihanna mansion shooter mentally fit for trial, says judge

A judge has ruled that Ivanna Ortiz, the woman accused of shooting at Rihanna's Los Angeles mansion, is mentally competent to stand trial. Ortiz, 35, is charged with attempted murder, assault with a semiautomatic firearm, and several other charges related to the March 8 incident. Proceedings had been suspended after concerns over Ortiz's mental state, but Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Maria Cavalluzzi reinstated the criminal proceedings on Tuesday.

She ordered Ortiz to appear in court again on Wednesday. Prosecutors allege Rihanna and her partner A$AP Rocky were in an Airstream trailer on the property when Ortiz allegedly opened fire. Rihanna reportedly heard several gunshots and opened the curtains to see bullet holes in the trailer's windshield. She said she quickly woke up A$AP Rocky and told him they were being shot at as they both hid on the ground.

Police stated about 20 rounds were fired, hitting the trailer, a patio area, a nursery room wall, and a neighboring property. Ortiz, who is from Florida, has pleaded not guilty to all charges and remains in detention with a $1.875 million bail set. If convicted, she could face life imprisonment without parole.
