A big zero from national athletics squad at Asian Games

NAGANO: Malaysia's national athletics team concluded their Asian Games campaign without any medal wins. Women's hammer thrower Grace Wong was Malaysia's final chance for a medal, but she settled for seventh place. Grace registered her personal best of 64.15 meters on her third attempt at Nagoya City Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium, but it was not sufficient to challenge the leaders.

The gold medal was claimed by China's Zhang Jiale, who set an Asian record with a throw of 78.27 meters, surpassing the previous mark of 78.22 meters set by Zhao Jie in April. Zhao Jie earned the silver with a throw of 74.83 meters, and the bronze went to host nation representative Joy McArthur with 68.42 meters. Grace attributed her disappointment to the pressure of aiming for both a personal best and a medal.

This result marks a poor performance for the national athletics team compared to the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, where Malaysia secured three bronze medals.
