Watch: Fiery radio exchange after Austin Hill and Shane van Gisbergen clash at Kansas

Shane van Gisbergen and Austin Hill have been involved in several clashes since the three-time Supercars champion joined NASCAR. In 2024, they were involved in incidents at COTA and Sonoma during NASCAR O Reilly Series races. SVG accused Hill of causing both of their wrecked races at Pocono and San Diego, which ultimately resulted in him losing a spot in the 2026 Chase. NASCAR even had to speak with the drivers after Van Gisbergen collided with Hill at Chicagoland earlier that month.

At Kansas, the tension between the two drivers continued. Van Gisbergen moved ahead of Hill while they were vying for position, and Hill struck the wall as Van Gisbergen applied pressure. Following the race, a heated radio exchange occurred between Hill and Richard Childress Racing spotter Derek Kneeland. Kneeland attempted to calm Hill down, but Hill responded with hostility, saying, "What do you mean settle down!?

You can't keep racing each other like this every week. We're gonna have destroyed cars and no finishes." Kneeland reiterated the importance of finishing the race, telling Hill, "We've got to get it back together here. Just keep it together."

Later in the race, after a restart pileup, Kneeland expressed his frustration to the crew chief about Hill's behavior. He called Hill a "piece of s***" and stressed that continuing their disputes would lead to damaged race cars and no finishes. Despite his harsh words, Kneeland stated that he still had the No. 97 driver's back. Hill finished 26th in the Kansas race, while SVG ended up placing 24th in a challenging day for both drivers.
