Watch a YouTuber Emulate PlayStation 5 Games on an Xbox Series X

An ambitious YouTuber has demonstrated how to run a PlayStation 5 emulator on an Xbox Series X. Developer Devran Cosmo Uenal posted a video showcasing games like Gex Trilogy, Hellboy Web of Wyrd, Marvel Cosmic Invasion, and Quake 2 running on the Xbox. Uenal utilized KytyPS5, an experimental Xbox port of the open-source PlayStation 5 emulator. He noted that the emulation effort was necessary since KytyPS5 runs on PC.

Uenal's video showed Quake 2 running at 20 to 40 frames per second with occasional stutters. Despite this, he pointed out that the emulation is early and compatibility is limited. However, he also mentioned that the PlayStation 5 user interface screen runs smoothly on the Xbox, including the option to play GTA 5. Tech site BGR reported that GTA 5 works surprisingly well in the PC version of KytyPS5.

While emulators themselves are not illegal, the potential for pirating games using them raises legal concerns. Indiana law firm McNeely Law stated that it may be legal to recreate a purchased game into a file playable by an emulator, but sharing or downloading video game files for use via emulator is generally illegal. Due to the legal gray area that emulators fall into, the author advises against using them.
